Overdue update

Time for a long overdue update on various links and interesting things to read out there on the internet.

FITNESS

  • Click here for Steve Maxwell’s take on crossfit (hint, he’s not too happy these days).
  • And in other fitness news, take this you modern man: “Basically, Grandpa was doing Cross-Fit before it was cool… are you as fit as a world war 2 GI?”
  • Want to get fit but have no time? Try the 1000 Cuts.

SELF-DEFENSE

  • Answer this … what would you fight for?
  • Fight, Assess, Scan, Topoff
  • Zelfs op een rustige zondagmorgen is het niet veilig meer om geld af te halen. Zie dit artikel.
  • Mugging: Victims and attackers give their accounts (click for link).
  • “No one wakes up in the morning one day and decides to become an armed robber. It is a gradual process that requires some experience and desensitizing. Before a man will pick up a gun and threaten to kill people who have done him no harm in order to get their usually meager possessions he has to get comfortable with some things.” Read on here to see what those are.
  • Burgersolidariteit… bestaat het nog?
  • Goeie tip: adressen, en waar ze niet te vermelden. Read on …
  • “Wake-up time” in this article on aliveness in training on 24FightingChickens.
Quoting: “Just admit it, you Shotokan ninja, you have not been training any of that anyway. You’ve just been doing kata, stepping basics, and tournament sparring, and then you argue on the Internet that your karate teaches real combat and that you are dangerous. You’re not that dangerous. You probably haven’t ever hit anyone in anger. If you had, you would learn what gun enthusiasts don’t know about shooting another person: you can pepper someone with bullets, and they just keep coming and don’t even know they are shot unless you hit them just right. Punching and kicking someone to death… that’s really, really not likely to happen in your lifetime. And the way Shotokan is taught and practiced with all of the emphasis on technique and form instead of combat training, well, combat training is just not what Shotokan is.”
